My automotive teacher worked at an independent shop and one of his techs mixed regular green coolant with G-12 coolant and it turned into a gell like substance. Typically these type of fluids have a 5 year life so if you have never had the coolant changed in a 2004 model then you should think about doing it soon

However, after some discussions on another thread, we thought it may be the contacts on the sensor, so if anyone feels helpful can they try taking the sensor plug off and on and giving it a wiggle to see if this helps. I asked if this would be a problem when the engine reached 90 degrees – he said no, I hope he’s right!!! :headhurt: washer fluid? or coolant? washer fluid is for spraying on the windscreen..

Coolant advice required – General Maintenance – BRISKODA.net – The Skoda Forum and Community

  http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/9467-coolant-advice-required/
Had a look and the level was just below the minimum, my question is do I go to Skoda dealer and get some coolant or Halfords and also which one should I get, is there a difference between them. According to VAG handbooks the coolant in modern VAG vehicles should only be obtained from an ‘authorised dealer’ – whether this is the usual get-out or there is a difference, someone else may be able to tell you

Brown stuff caked to inside of coolant system

  http://forums.thecarlounge.com/showthread.php?3584547-Brown-stuff-caked-to-inside-of-coolant-system
The only thing I can think of is when I took my car to a Jiffy Lube-type place, they topped off the coolant with their own stuff rather than VW’s G12 A8D coolant additive. Now it’s December and I’m freezing my butt off because my heat doesn’t work because the mechanic said this residue is probably also stuck to my heater core

Bentley Publishers – Technical Discussions : Coolant Flush ? – Reuse G12? …

  http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/thread.jspa?threadID=10285
If I do a complete flush of the rad and engine core is it critical that the fluid I put back in be G12? Or can I just go with any phosphate and silicate free fluid? How much fluid do I require to fill the coolant system after a complete flush? Bentley states 5.5 Litres. I wouldn’t replace the fluid either with anything less than factory specs, because sometimes you get what you pay for and can ruin a lot of expensive equipment, not worth it

I’m putting this stuff in because it’s the closest thing I can get, but I would like to know if anyone knows the difference between G12 A8D and G 012 A8FA4. Coolant question – any mechanics out there?

  http://archive.simjunkies.org/general-discussion/coolant-question-any-mechanics-out-there/
The last thing I can think of is that they have seen issues with those vehicles where at high miles or older fluid has issues, but since they did not present it to you like that, they probably are still not being completely honest. I however have never heard of an issue with the water pump having a hard time pumping coolant, that dose sound like he is talking out of his ass, the excuse of the coolant freeze point being too low also sounds very suspect to me

Coolant question

If you add anything other than pure water OR G12 coolant it will begin to gel up and you will have to flush the entire system Damn it!! Nothing can be simple with this car Not to mention the idiots at Autozone told me the stuff was fine. Glad I didn’t listen!! Originally Posted by ASRoff What are you doing up so late Shelly? The only thing I can think of is when I took my car to a Jiffy Lube-type place, they topped off the coolant with their own stuff rather than VW’s G12 A8D coolant additive.1. I also assumed that the brown residue in the coolant reservoir was because the lube place tried to top off the G12 A8D coolant with some other type. Thanks again

I’m not against putting something else in the Golf, but the manual says that the stock antifreeze will turn brown once an aftermarket antifreeze is added, etc. Compared to what I’m used to, Indian Head is the boonies We have to go into Waldorf to get everything but groceries Thanks for the input everyone, I went by VW today and picked up the “real” stuff

If you remove the connector from the sending unit and look at it with the notch at the top, terminal 3 is at the upper LEFT, terminal 4 is at the upper RIGHT, terminal 2 is at the lower RIGHT, and terminal 1 is at the lower LEFT. The Audi V8 uses a similar fuse arrangement for the radiator fan and this is mounted inside the engine compartment on the left front fender area behind the head lamp area

Polo Coolant – SeanO Dr, Thank you for your reply, unfortunately that information is missing from the VW fluid that I have bought (maybe only intended to be used by VW tech’s?). Can anyone confirm that this is actually true? Apologies for the longish question but bearing in mind the dire warnings in the Haynes and the car handbook about the consequences of mixing coolant fluids I would like to be absolutely sure I have got it right before I start

The silicate free, organic acid technology (OAT) provides superior engine protection and is compatible with all vehicle manufacturers’ colours of OAT coolants. This vehicle does however come in a crossover period for coolant recommendations so it would be worth checking what has already been fitted to the vehicle first to ensure that you are not mixing coolants of different types

This newly developed product permits a cooling system fill that lasts the service life of the engine and was designed with all-aluminum engines in mind. We had 2 colors mixed and it was still the proper consistancy but maybe we changed in before it got worse? Like I said I’m not trying to question you I’m just trying to get some knowledge
